Robotic Dog

A company called Boston Dynamics has developed this scary looking (and sounding) robotic dog, along with other robotic models, and it's both amazing and terrifying to think just how advanced technology is now and where it could be heading - especially with regards to military applications.

Affliction show to debut July 19

With lots of MMA promotions emerging and gaining prominence over the last year, Randy Couture resigning from the UFC and the exodus of top level fighters from that organisation it is going to be interesting to see just how the MMA landscape shapes up. Add to that the debut of Affliction MMA promotions with the main event between former Pride heavyweight champion Fedor Emilanenko and former UFC heavyweight champion Tim Sylvia and it looks like the UFC has some serious competition on its hands.

Alves dominates Hughes

Saturday 7th June 2008 an era ended. One of the most dominant welterweight fighters in UFC history Matt Hughes was beaten once again by a younger opponent. This time in the form of Brazilian Muay Thai specialist Thiago Alves. Coming in a little overweight with an injured right ankle Alves survived a first round offense by hughes to put the former welterweight champion down at 1:02 in the second round.
So what remains for Hughes now? One last fight against Matt Serra before hanging up those gloves for good? A rematch against Alves? Certainly not a third bout against nemesis George St Pierre. Whatever Hughes decides to do his legacy as a dominant force in the UFC welterweight division will remain despite his recent losses.

UFC 79: Nemesis

Chuck vs Wanderlei, the fight to settle the question that has been on every MMA fan's mind for the last 4 years: who will win when Chuck and Wanderlei fight? I don't even want to try and call this one as it's far too close but this flash powered gem promoting the event is high on design aesthetics, flash video and interactivity.

Transformers DVD

Having been an avid fan of the Transformers series when I was a child I was more than a little skeptical over the revisited, hollywood-ised version from this summer. I thought it was just another cynical move by jaded studio execs to cash in on yet another revised craze. Now that I've actually seen the movie, on DVD, I must admit it's nowhere near as bad as I thought it would be (even if a lot of the characters have been changed from their original incarnations) and is actually very, very funny. Shia Lebouf, in particular, is fantastic as Sam Witwicky.
